Provision of Services for Akamas Regional Bird Fauna and Terrestrial Flora Information Center in the Community of Kathikas

The modern Regional Information Center for Birds and Terrestrial Flora Akamas in the Community of Kathikas in Pafos district, falls under the project “PROCUREMENT OF EQUIPMENT/EXHIBITS/INFORMATION MATERIALS AND PROVISION OF SERVICES FOR THE REGIONAL INFORMATION CENTER FOR BIRD FAUNA AND TERESTRIAL FLORA” No. Tender: ED.PAF.K.S 15/2021.

The aim of the Project is to present the main species of Bird Fauna and Terrestrial Flora of Akamas Peninsula, world famous for its biodiversity, in the specially designed rooms of the Center, with the ultimate aim of informing and educating the public about the wealth of our natural heritage.

SELAS Publications participated in the Project by undertaking a long on the spot research of the physical and cultural wealth of Akamas. Our editors undertook the writing of the physical, historical, and cultural aspects of each community of Akamas, which are presented in the exhibits of the museum. They also prepared the context of the Center’s website https://akamasvisitorcentre.com/.

SELAS’ cartographers undertook the detailed mapping of the area, including road network, paths, and nature trails, as well as collection of all points of interest. Printed and digital maps have been produced and offered to visitors or displayed in special designed boards within the Community.

The Exhibition Center also serves as a place for education and scientific research, contributing to public awareness of the importance of protecting and properly managing the environmental wealth of the area.

Mapping Tremithousa Community

,

SELAS undertook, on behalf of Tremithousa Municipal Council, the Project of mapping Tremithousa Community in Pafos District and the production of digital and printed maps.

The mapping included the recording of the road network as well as the points of interest within the village. The Maps also include an alphabetical listing of all streets within the Community’s administrative area. 

​The printed maps were placed in prominent places within the Community for the guidance of both locals and foreign visitors.

In addition, printed pocket size maps were designed for individual use in a simple and modern design.

New cartographic services, “Maps on Demand”, offered by SELAS

New Series of 3D Relief Maps of Europe and the World

We are happy to announce the launch of the new limited edition of 3D Relief Maps of Europe and the World, which circulates for the first time in the Cypriot market.

The unique 3D Relief Map of Europe is on scale 1:8.000.000 and size 77x57cm and the World 3D Map is on scale 1:53.500.000 and size 77x57cm.

The colourful Maps depict in detail the relief of Europe and the World with the use of hypsometric tints, showing in detail the plains, the mountain ranges, valleys and peaks, hydrographic features (rivers, lakes, etc.) and unique geomorphological landforms. Wall Map

Latest updates of SELAS GIS database of Cyprus

SELAS geographical database on Cyprus has been updated and includes hundreds of new roads within towns and districts, street names, as well as a variety of new points of interest (POIs) throughout Cyprus.

The new updated geographical database of Cyprus includes 100% of addresses within towns with navigational data and 90% of the addresses within villages. Points of interest include banks, gas stations, restaurants, accommodation, public services, medical centers, sports facilities, etc. SELAS geographical database is the most comprehensive database available for Cyprus and is subject to high quality controls by Quality Management companies and leading Navigation companies.

All the data is collected on the spot on a daily basis and is regularly updated to meet the Quality Control Criteria, such as Completeness, Correctness and Accuracy.

Mapping Ezousa Valley and Ezousa Walking Trail

SELAS has undertook, on behalf of Episkopi Community Board, the Project of mapping the Ezουsa Valley and the Walking Trail created along the River of Ezousa.

The map was created using digital elevation model in order to depict the unique geomorphology of the area, with the river system which created one of the most beautiful valleys of the island. The Map depicts the 7 km long Ezousa walking trail with all sites of interest encountered along the route, such as the Episkopi Rock, “the Meteora of Cyprus” as they call it, a geomorphological landform with 70 cm high and 250 cm long with a unique ecological value, the main road network, the land use and special physical, historical and cultural sites of the area.

Combining science, art, aesthetics and technique, we have created an original 3D Illustrated Map of Ezousa Walking Trail that should constitute a useful tool for the traveler to explore Ezousa Valley with its unique biodiversity.

  5. SELAS has signed an Agreement of membership with Green-dot Cyprus, which is a Management Body of the Collective Management System for packaging and packaging waste within the Cypriot market. We adopt the message of Green-dot “We protect the environment, we secure the future”.
  6. We support charity organizations for The Nature Conservancy, conservation and environmental projects and tree plantations.

New edition of the Pafos Road Map

The new updated edition of the Road Map of Pafos Town and District has just been released. The Map is locally researched and produced after intensive fieldwork. It is very comprehensive, accurate and user-friendly.

The new edition includes a street map of Pafos Town (1:9 500), a Road Map of Pafos district (1:100 000) and insert maps of Polis-Latsi area, Pegeia area and Akamas, Stavros tis Psokas and Kathikas Nature Trails. It also includes a detailed index to all villages and hotels within Pafos.

On one side there is a Street Map of Pafos Town, with all street names and sites of interest such as historical and cultural sites, churches and monuments etc. Additionally there is plenty of information on public services, food and drink, accommodation, petrol stations, banks, health, beaches etc.

On the other side there is a detailed Road Map of Pafos District depicting a detailed road network classified as per the importance of the roads, all settlements classified according to population, geomorphological landforms, nature trails and lots of tourist information such as accommodation, picnic sites, camping, beaches, etc.

The Map is in English and includes over 4.000 entries and explanations and a legend in 6 languages. It also includes a detailed Index to all streets within Pafos Town and all villages within Pafos District.

Mapping Miliou Village

,

SELAS undertook, on behalf of  Miliou Community Council, the Project of mapping the Community and the production of digital and printed maps.
The mapping included the recording of the road network as well as the points of interest within the village.

The mapping was made in illustrated form highlighting key buildings and local walks in  an artistic style. 

The printed maps were placed on display boards within the Community for the guidance of both locals and foreign visitors.
